'MUSIC ALIVE' PERFORMANCE
WIGAN MUSIC SERVICES - MUSIC ALIVE! WHOLE SCHOOL ASSEMBLY: FRIDAY 7TH JUNE 2024
We welcomed the 'Music Alive' string quintet to our school to perform live music for our whole school audience.
We learned that:
* All of the string instruments have 4 strings
* A string quintet often features two violins, a viola, a cello and a double bass
* The larger the string instrument, the lower the notes that can be played.
The string quintet performed popular music from the films; 'Willy Wonka', 'Harry Potter' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. We also listened to music written by composers from earlier eras, such as Vivaldi and Saint Saens.
We thoroughly enjoyed our live music experience and it has certainly inspired some of us to want to learn to play instruments in the future.

WIDER OPPORTUNITIES: YEAR 4
We are very privileged at Chowbent Primary School to have the opportunity to take part in the Wider Opportunities Programme which enables children in Year 4 to access music tuition for a year led by specialist musicians at Wigan Music Service.
Our Year 4 children have been learning how to play African drums and percussion instruments and have developed skills in reading music, rhythm, listening and appreciation, composition and singing, along with technical mastery of their instrument.
Our school have funded the Wider Opportunities Programme for many years now and we have seen a significant rise in self confidence, self control and enjoyment through the years as the children learn what it takes to become a musician.
We regularly invite parents into school to watch concerts to showcase what all of our Year 4 children have learnt over the year. We have some very talented musicians in our school!
