Disabled Pupils' Accessibility Plan

Disability Access Plan is a plan for 20024-2025

Chowbent will make reasonable adjustments as necessary to ensure that children with a disability have, where possible, full access to their educational entitlement. We aim to - increase the extent to which disabled pupils can participate in the school's curriculum.

- improve the physical environment of the school for the purpose of increasing the extent to which disabled pupils are able to take advantage of education and benefits, facilities or services provided or offered by the school.

- improve the delivery to disabled pupils of information which is readily accessible to pupils who are not disabled.

Schools actions will take the form of

-long term plans based on an assessment of the current school site and any current barriers to make the school fit for any possible future need that may present itself.

-medium term adjustments which it becomes are needed as the school develops its understanding of a child’s needs over time.

-immediate adjustments that are required to enable a child to access school where failure to do so would result in a child being unable to access school.

For 2024/2025.

Long term adjustments – when finances allow school will update their toilet provision to make them more accessible for ay wheelchair user.

Medium term adjustments. School has identified an increasing number of children entering school in Reception who are not toilet trained. School will work to make improved provision in the Reception class base so that nappies can be changed in a way which is safe and not deeming to the child. School will ensure that staff involved in intimate care are properly trained and put in place an intimate care policy.

In the current school year, adjustments have been made to an area within school to allow a child with an EHCP to work within a base that meets his sensory needs.

At times a child will need a ‘safe place’ to help them regulate their emotions, in these cases school will provide such a place designed to meet that particular child’s needs, for example, a small tent within a suitably quiet area of school.

School is able to make adjustments where needed for children with specific physical needs, for example pen grips, angled writing boards for children with O.T. recommendations.
