The Covid pandemic showed us clearly the importance of a continuity of education for children. At Chowbent we make sure that provisions are in place should circumstances disrupt a child's access to their educational entitlement.
Circumstances under which a child may need to access remote education.
School will not provide educational provision for children who are taken on unauthorised holidays in term time. Parents must be aware of the school's attendance policy in regards to taking holidays in term time. However if a child is recovering from or preparing for an operation, or recovering from injury, then it is appropriate that school provides access to remote learning.
Provision of remote learning should be a short term arrangement not a long term one.
Under Section 19 of the Education Act, local authorities are responsible for arranging suitable education for children of compulsory school age who, because of health or other reasons, would otherwise not receive a suitable education.
Digital education platforms.
School purchases access to multiple online educational platforms which a child can access from home free of charge. If remote learning is needed, school will advise on which platforms are available and the child's teacher will set up suitable modules for the child at home to work through.
If a family have difficulty accessing online resources at home, school is able to provide laptop loans.
All laptops loans are covered by the school's safeguarding monitoring software, meaning that school will be notified if the laptop is used to access inappropriate material.
If a child, due to specific learning needs cannot access online resources, school will supply paper copies of work.
Where an unplanned school closure occurs, school will endeavour to make available good quality packed lunches to children who are eligible to benefit related free school meals. Where a child is excluded from school, work will be provided for that child to complete at home during their exclusion for the first 5 days.
