Admissions - applying for a place at our school

If you would like your child to attend our school, please see full details of our admission arrangements below.  As a voluntary-controlled school the local authority decides our admissions.  In all cases please contact the local authority regarding admissions to Chowbent Primary School.

Admission Arrangements

Chowbent is a one form entry primary school with a total capacity of 210 pupils.

The maximum number of children admitted to the reception class is 30.

Admission Criteria

Children with a statement of 'special educational need' (SEN), which names the school.

Children in public care.

Children whose older brother or sister attend the school and who will still be there at the time of admission. (see note below)

Other children living closest to the school. Distance is measured on an ordnance survey map in a straight line.

NOTE: Brothers and sister include half or step brothers and sisters, and foster brothers and sisters, who are living at the same address as part of the same family unit.

Wigan Education Department administers the admission procedure. Parents who are not offered a place can appeal against the decision.

Parents considering applying for a place at Chowbent Primary School are welcome to visit the school by appointment. An ‘Open Day’ is held in the autumn term and a meeting for all parents in the summer term. Our inspire project also runs in the second half of the summer term and is for children, parents and carers of the new intake pupils to reception class.

Inspire is a series of half day sessions where children have the opportunity to meet their teacher, join in fun activities and meet other parents and pupils.
