The Pupil Premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and diminish the differences between these pupils and their peers.

From September 2026, the Department for Education (DfE) made changes to the way that Free School Meals are allocated. All children and their families need to be rechecked annually to ascertain whether they can continue to receive this entitlement. Wigan Council will then be able to run the annual checks required and submit results to school, without further action on your part each year, as your child moves through their school journey.
