School Council

What is the School Council?

Our School Council represents the voice of our school. It gives children the opportunity to make their voices heard and be an important part of the school community. The school council can propose and take forward ideas and projects on behalf of their peers and be involved in strategic planning and processes with Mr Randle.

By having our Chowbent School Council, children:

Feel that school responds to their needs and views;
Enjoy and feel empowered by their education;
Have a say about decisions and play an active role in making their school a better place;
Develop life skills like participation and leadership

Our Projects this year:

Ran cake sales and tuck stops to help raise money for playground improvements.
Helped secure funding for our school garden, nature pond, planters and the restoration of our greenhouse.
Visited Parliament to learn about democracy.
Hosted our local MP, Jo Platt, and gave her a tour around our school.
Got in contact with Wigan Council to reinstate a school crossing patrol outside of school.
Introduced new playtime rules and rotas.

School Council Visit to Parliament 2026

Our School Council Members visited London in April 2026. The visit provided pupils with a fantastic opportunity to step outside the classroom and put their learning into context. During their visit, the children enjoyed taking in some of London's most famous sights and experiencing the history and culture of our capital city.

The pupils were also extremely fortunate to meet with our local MP, Jo Platt and have the opportunity to talk with her about her role and responsibilities. As School Council representatives, the children were able to see first-hand how their own voices and ideas can contribute to positive change. The experience helped them to understand the importance of democracy, representation, leadership and having a voice, linking closely to the responsibilities they hold within our school.
