    SCIENCE IN EYFS

Science in Early Years is taught through our themes of learning. Children explore the natural world around them making observations and drawing pictures of animals and plants. They know some similarities and differences between the natural world around them and contrasting environments, drawing on their experiences and what has been read in class. Children understand some important processes and changes in the natural world around including the seasons and changing states of matter.

    ALL ABOUT MY FAMILY

In our first topic in EYFS we learned about ourselves and our family. We looked how to keep ourselves healthy. We learned that exercise is good for us as well as a healthy diet. We each made a piece of clay fruit or veg to remind us of our healthy foods. We learnt about cleaning our teeth plus many more things. We practised cleaning the giant’s teeth with a two minutes timer

    THE SEASONS

In our second topic in EYFS we explore the different seasons and what changes we expect to see in each. We complete a Science experiment about melting and are introduced to the concept of ‘Fair Testing’ and first use our KS1 Science investigation pro forma ‘Curious Caterpillar’. We investigate which ice cube will melt quickest, the one covered in salt or the one covered in sugar. We discuss how only one variable can change and the rest stay the same. We were so excited to see the results and learn how salt helps grown ups with their driving in icy conditions too.
