Year 6

Hello and welcome to Year 6 Class Homepage.

Here we can keep you up to date with everything we do in Year 6.

In Year 6 we push the children to achieve their full potential and help them to grow in confidence, ready for their next step in life.

Timetable

Important Information

Here you will be able to find out important information about our routines in year 6.

PE

Our PE lessons will be on a Friday afternoon from 2:15 - 3:15. The children will need their PE kits each week which should be made up of a white t-shirt, black shorts/joggers and black pumps. When we are working outdoors, your child may need a warm jacket and outdoor shoes however Miss Glazebrook will notify you before the lesson(s) if these are required.

Homework

Each Friday the children will be sent home with a piece of maths homework linked to that week's maths topic. This will be due in on the following Monday morning. I expect maths homework to be completed in pencil. Children may take one from school if they do not have one at home. Children will complete homework in dinner time detention if not handed in that day. On a Monday the children will also receive a piece of arithmetic homework due the following day (Tuesday). Again children who do not hand this in will complete it Tuesday dinner.

We will also be sending spellings each Friday which will be tested the following Monday. These spellings are based on the spelling rule learnt that week.

I will also set the children a piece of homework on SATsCompanion weekly but children can use this as much as they like. The link can be found in the pupil section of our website. All children have personal logins in their planners.

Children need to be reading their reading books regularly, aiming to change them at least once fortnightly (depending on the length and complexity of the text). We have a reading incentive in class where the children can work towards a reward termly.

Any children that do no know their times tables will also need to ensure that they are learning these at home to support their learning in school.

Our Topics

This term we are learning about the Ancient Greeks, their culture, way of life and their beliefs. We will be researching our own information and presenting our findings in different ways. We will be linking this to our art topic where we will be making models of Greek vases. If possible, could parents and carers please donate any newspapers to help us with this project.

In English, we will be reading and responding to a range of Greek texts before creating our own myths and legends.

We will also be sending home project homework linked to this topic later in the term.
