Here we can keep you up to date with everything we do in Year 5.
Here you will be able to find out important information about our routines in year 5.
Our PE lessons will be on Monday afternoon. The children will need their PE kits each week which should be made up of a white t-shirt, black shorts/joggers and black pumps. When we are working outdoors, your child may need a warm jacket and outdoor shoes however we will notify you before the lesson(s) if these are required.
Each Friday the children will be sent home with a piece of maths homework which links to the teaching from their weekly maths lessons. In addition to this, we will also be sending spellings each Friday which will be tested the following Monday.
Children need to be reading their reading books regularly, aiming to change them at least once fortnightly (depending on the length and complexity of the text). We have a reading incentive in class where the children can work towards a reward termly.
Any children that do no know their times tables will also need to ensure that they are learning these at home to support their learning in school.
This term we are learning about the Ancient Greeks, their culture, way of life and their beliefs. We will be researching our own information and presenting our findings in different ways. We will be linking this to our art topic where we will be making models of Greek vases. If possible, could parents and carers please donate any newspapers to help us with this project.
In English, we will be reading and responding to a range of Greek texts before creating our own myths and legends.
We will also be sending home project homework linked to this topic later in the term.
